Galentine’s Day Reading List

February 8, 2018

Posted by Lauren Rodych-Eberle

Reading is something I really love to do. This snowy Galentine’s Day, why not cozy up with a cup of tea and a good book! Of course I have a ton of tea suggestions for this, too! (click the image to shop some great Valentine’s teas!)

Here are a few suggestions of things to read this Galentine’s Day!

Self-Help Books

The Five Love Languages – Gary Chapman

168 Hours – Laura Vanderkam

Adventure Books

The Couple Next Door – Shari Lapena

19 Minutes – Jodi Picoult

Books That Pull At the Heart Strings

Still Alice – Lisa Genova

Room – Emma Donoghue

On the go a lot? Reading on the go is so much easier using the GoodReads App, too! I use it and would really recommend it. (click the image to download!)

Looking to read more regularly? In case you missed it, check out my post on how to start your own book club!

When we came back to New York, it all of a sudden felt like C’s first wake window of the day went by in a blur between breakfast and getting us ready and getting things cleaned!! Then I remembered the wiseness of my mama - after breakfast and tidying up, I started setting a half hour timer for us to just PLAY, uninterrupted with no other distractions and no other thoughts of cleaning. Then, when that timer goes off (which feels like 2 minutes), we can get washed up, do our laundry, and other things, before C’s nap.

Do you set a timer for anything?

I used to provide my students with a practise char I used to provide my students with a practise chart and once they had a certain amount of days of practise, they would get to choose a prize. I soon realized I was interrupting intrinsic motivation. Some students were practising only for the reward. So now, there can still be practise charts, but the reward is the skill itself, and prizes are just bonus.
.
This is something I’m sure I’ll need to remind myself regularly in my parenting journey!!

What’s something you aren’t intrinsically motivated to do?
