Vancouver Travel Guide

June 24, 2020

Posted by Lauren Rodych-Eberle

I used to live in White Rock, BC when I was younger and even after I moved, I spent many trips back there with family and friends. We often popped into Vancouver for little day trips, but now as an adult visiting friends, I’ve been there for more days at a time with the exploring mindset at top of mind! Vancouver is beautiful, and rainy (so always pack rain gear), but…beautiful!

Activities

  • Rent bikes at Spokes Bicycle Rental and bike the Seawall
  • Hike the Iceberg Lake Trail
  • Do the Grouse Grind Hike (you have to pay for the gondola down – it is not permitted to hike down)
  • The Vancouver Aquarium is nice, if that’s your kind of thing!
  • Wander around Stanley Park
  • Walk Library Square, Coopers’ Park, David Lam Park (False Creek)
  • Take the AquaBus to Granville Island
  • Visit the Science Centre
  • See the Terry Fox Memorial
  • Watch your favourite hockey team take on the Vancouver Canucks

Other activities that I didn’t get a chance to do, but were recommended and/or researched:

  • Cross the Capilano Suspension Bridge (this is hardcore on my bucket list)

Now to the Food…

Restaurants

  • Honey Salt – love their farm-to-table breakfast; ask for their homemade hot sauce!
  • OEB – solid breakfast spot
  • Jam Café – there will definitely be a line for breakfast; check out the tater bowl
  • Honey Doughnuts and Goodies – their honey doughnut tastes like a waffle with syrup!
  • Belgian Chocolate Cafe – nice for a quick lunch or to grab a sandwich and take to the park
  • The Boathouse Restaurant – nice food!
  • Reflections Bar at Hotel Georgia – the Garden Terrace rooftop patio
  • Minami Sushi – get the black truffle scallop
  • Browns Socialhouse – a good spot to eat before a hockey game

Other Restaurants that I didn’t get a chance to try, but were recommended and/or researched:

  • Nuba – Mediterranean cuisine
  • Nightingale – Tapas-style & Canadian fare
  • Joe Fortes – Seafood restaurant, but go there for brunch!
  • Kissa Tanto – when Italian and Japanese cuisine’s marry
  • Ask For Luigi Restaurant – Italian
  • The Victor – seafood with a view
  • Blue Water Cafe – seafood
  • Elisa – steakhouse
  • Mister Artisan Ice Cream – for obvious reasons

Enjoy Beautiful British Columbia!!

And that has me thinking, do you have a nickname for your spouse?

“Just because I can, doesn’t mean I should.” “It’s okay to let go.” “Investment in help benefits the whole family system.” Always a work in progress.

Do you have an affirmation you’re whispering in your own ear lately?!

Throwback to little C starting solids at about the Throwback to little C starting solids at about the same age D is now.

With D coming up on starting solids, I’m going down memory lane. My midwife said something that gave me all the feels…how incredible it is that every cell of little Deacon has come from me, from growing him to nourishing him with my milk. Knowing he’s going to start being nourished with other food makes me want to pause time, but also…I love this food journey, as you know…since it brought me #collinskitchencookbook and I think it may be even more fun this time around since Collins is already planning out Deacon’s menu!!

Is there anything you want me to talk about baby-led weaning wise as we go about our food journey?! And if not, just tell me what food you think D should try ASAP!!
