[Kid] Books Worth Reading – For Learning About Teeth

Dr. Ashley Svenkeson spent some time with me sharing her expertise on dental health when it comes to kids! If you haven’t read it yet, check it out here. She discussed how making teeth brushing fun, by exposing kids to it in fun ways, will help them want to turn teeth brushing (and visiting the dentist) into a regular habit. Here are some of her top recommended books for kids, about all things teeth!!

Brush, Brush, Brush! by Alicia Padron

Peppa Pig: Dentist Trip

Tooth by Leslie Patricelli

Tooth Trouble by Jane Clarke

The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist by Stan & Jan Berenstain

Enjoy reading & brushing those mini pearly-whites!

I adopted the timer trick from @mamarodych - she s I adopted the timer trick from @mamarodych - she sets a timer for everything...and yet she doesn’t even know that’s where I got my block scheduling from...🤣

When we came back to New York, it all of a sudden felt like C’s first wake window of the day went by in a blur between breakfast and getting us ready and getting things cleaned!! Then I remembered the wiseness of my mama - after breakfast and tidying up, I started setting a half hour timer for us to just PLAY, uninterrupted with no other distractions and no other thoughts of cleaning. Then, when that timer goes off (which feels like 2 minutes), we can get washed up, do our laundry, and other things, before C’s nap.

Do you set a timer for anything?

I used to provide my students with a practise char I used to provide my students with a practise chart and once they had a certain amount of days of practise, they would get to choose a prize. I soon realized I was interrupting intrinsic motivation. Some students were practising only for the reward. So now, there can still be practise charts, but the reward is the skill itself, and prizes are just bonus.
.
This is something I’m sure I’ll need to remind myself regularly in my parenting journey!!

What’s something you aren’t intrinsically motivated to do?
