When I realized I could go a week between washing my hair, my life changed forever, for the better! And boy, am I glad I figured this out long ago. It saves me an insane amount of time. It means I am only washing and styling my hair once a week. Then, each day when I shower and get ready, it’s quick and easy! Some of you may be saying, “Ew!” Some of you are probably saying, “How can that be me?” And some of you are already in my boat!

My dry shampoo journey went through stages of starting with dry shampoo from a can, to then realizing I wanted something that wouldn’t go in a landfill; from chemical-filled to chemical-free; and finally to a homemade-version that covers the best of all the worlds, for me! And, I have Shandi Heighton to thank for this!

Shandi is the owner of Bloom, where you’ll find the most beautiful hair scrunchies, so it’s no surprise that she knows a thing or two about hair! She once made me her homemade dry shampoo, and I was so in love, that I said to her, “I need to know how to make this for myself over and over again!” She has been sweet enough to allow me to share this with you!

Homemade Dry Shampoo

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Arrowroot Powder
  • 1/4 Cup (or less) Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

Directions

  1. Mix ingredients together in a glass mason jar.
  2. When using, apply to roots of dry hair using a makeup brush or fingers. Work it in and your hair will look fresh and clean!

Tip: For darker hair, swap the ratios of arrowroot powder and cocoa powder. For super light hair, I’ve heard of people simply using the arrowroot powder.

Once you go homemade dry shampoo, you don’t go back!
