Homemade Dry Shampoo

When I realized I could go a week between washing my hair, my life changed forever, for the better! And boy, am I glad I figured this out long ago. It saves me an insane amount of time. It means I am only washing and styling my hair once a week. Then, each day when I shower and get ready, it’s quick and easy! Some of you may be saying, “Ew!” Some of you are probably saying, “How can that be me?” And some of you are already in my boat!

My dry shampoo journey went through stages of starting with dry shampoo from a can, to then realizing I wanted something that wouldn’t go in a landfill; from chemical-filled to chemical-free; and finally to a homemade-version that covers the best of all the worlds, for me! And, I have Shandi Heighton to thank for this!

Shandi is the owner of Bloom, where you’ll find the most beautiful hair scrunchies, so it’s no surprise that she knows a thing or two about hair! She once made me her homemade dry shampoo, and I was so in love, that I said to her, “I need to know how to make this for myself over and over again!” She has been sweet enough to allow me to share this with you! My favourite way to apply this dry shampoo is with a makeup brush! That being said, you can simply use your fingers too.

Homemade Dry Shampoo

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Arrowroot Powder
  • 1/4 Cup (or less) Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

Directions

  1. Mix ingredients together in a glass mason jar. The end.

Tip: For darker hair, swap the ratios of arrowroot powder and cocoa powder. For super light hair, I’ve heard of people simply using the arrowroot powder.

Once you go homemade dry shampoo, you don’t go back!

My Beginner Piano eCourse is fully out in the worl My Beginner Piano eCourse is fully out in the world!!

As of yesterday, the full course is released, and this wave of relief just washed over me!! The amount of time, energy, and resources that goes into these courses is more than I would have ever known, but I’m so happy, and grateful to have them available to people for a lifetime, and also to have a way to continue to offer music to many more people, in many more homes, for unlimited time!!

Tomorrow I’ll release a blog that will answer all the top questions I’ve been asked about my Preschool Music eCourse and my Beginner Piano eCourse, so you can see if they are a fit for you or anyone you know!!

But now, tell me a goal you’re dreaming up - work-related or not!!

I’m overdue for 5 Fun Facts, so let’s pair it I’m overdue for 5 Fun Facts, so let’s pair it with these five fun photos!

1. I didn’t like anything grapefruit before I had Collins, and now I’m always like, “Give me all the grapefruit sparkling water!”

2. I’ve always had multiple jobs from the time I was a teenager…I sum it up to me thinking that variety is the spice of life.

3. I believe ketchup and mustard belong on breakfast egg sandwiches.

4. If you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have said “a mom!” I still think it’s the greatest gift in the whole entire world.

5. Even though I said variety is the spice of life, I am wildly good with repetition for an incredible amount of time…the same food, the same song, the same walk…I don’t know if it’s patience or just insanity, but I don’t get sick of the same thing over and over and over and over and over again.

Give me a fun fact about you!!
